An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind.

Good thing Justice is already blind.

I don't understand sleep. That doesn't matter. I'm awake, and it's important to say that here, on this record, because I am definitely 100% conscious. I retrieved the voice mail. I am awake, I retrieved the voice mail, and I uploaded it onto my computer from the Kira case to create and analyze its spectrograph. It is Watari's voice. Watari has been dead for over a year. Someone must have gained access to my voice synthesis codecs. That is the only explanation. I deleted those codecs, and everything else I've never let out of my sight, but that is the only explanation.

I don't use this private option for anything but case notes that I want to store electronically. But that phone call I just received. I don't know what to think. No. I think I need to go to bed.

It's not very often I find an entire unopened, unclaimed box of glazed donuts in a break room. Thank you, anonymous donater.

I am visiting one of my protégés in New York City tonight to address the "vacuum" my absence has created in the mundane investigative world. The trip will also allow me to procure a reading list on a suspect that operated in and around New York City Public Library. I'm thankful the United States government hasn't decided to stop tracking book-borrowing yet.

If you want a souvenir, you have tonight and tomorrow morning to tell me. Edit: I will be staying longer than I anticipated.

It always gets busiest around all of the major holidays.

Back in college, I freelanced as a private investigator to assuage my boredom. Hardly any of the cases were "serious", but they kept me busy. Every year, right as exams were ending and Christmas break was beginning, I'd observe a nearly 250% increase in cases. Some of them were school-related, such as cases of plagiarism, cheating, hazing, teacher-student affairs, and other activities that went against school policy. The rest were created by paranoid girlfriends and boyfriends that seemingly wanted to have their hearts broken during Christmas break.

It's no surprise that suicide rates are highest right now.

As I got older, I started losing interest in trivial cases like whether or not someone is adulterous, but I still feel nostalgic around Christmas.

Miss Valentine,

I appreciate the gift.

I doubt you had my interests in mind, especially when gauging the reactions of other agents, but I have always found zombies fascinating. I don't have much opportunity to procure zombified flesh for dissection due to the nature of my usual work. I'm a police officer, not a doctor.

Zombies' anaerobic, regenerative abilities are amazing. Even in death beyond undeath, they still function slightly.

After my latest debriefing today, I received a memo which said that although I've been working here for months now, almost no one knows who I am because I don't go out of my way to meet people. I think this is an exaggeration. Apparently the rotating security personnel don't recognize me half of the time and are getting tired of having to check my identification. It was heavily emphasized that I begin using the BOB to solve this problem of anonymity.

Hi. My name is L. I work here. I assume all of you do too.

Regarding that debriefing, I don't feel any need to explain myself for what I did. It solved the case, which is why I'm here: to solve cases. At the sparse, quick, and mostly ceremonial report, everyone was trying their best not to look me in the eyes. I didn't think it was funny.

Faeries aren't much without their wings, which is why they'll explain themselves when justice threatens them. I was at a dead end otherwise. All other avenues had been explored thoroughly. I'm not sorry for doing my job. That's all.

Perhaps small, fragile things should be kept away from me during interrogations in the future. Just a suggestion.

I hope this was sufficient, the powers that be.

How's my driving? What did you like? What did you hate? What do you want to see more of? What would you like to see L do next? What do you think was stupid and I should smack myself for it? Let me know!
